Catappa Leaves — Indian Almond, Natural Tannins

Details

Dried Indian almond leaves — the blackwater classic. As a leaf breaks down it releases tannins that tint the water amber, soften light, and create the conditions bettas, killifish, shrimp and apistogrammas breed in.

  • Natural tannin source. Mild antibacterial and antifungal properties; comfort for blackwater species.
  • Shrimp food too. The biofilm that grows on a softening leaf is a shrimp colony's favourite grazing surface.
  • Cover and spawning sites. Bettas anchors bubble nests under leaf edges; fry shelter in the wrap.
  • One leaf per 40-60 litres. Replace when fully eaten or broken down.
