DIY CO2 Generator Kit — 2 L Stainless
Details
A refill-free CO2 kit for planted tanks. Citric acid and bicarbonate react inside a 2 L stainless bottle to produce CO2 — no gas cylinder, no trips to a refill shop.
- No cylinder to refill. You top it up with two cheap dry chemicals instead of hauling a bottle to a gas supplier. That is the whole point of this design.
- Constant-pressure valve body tested above 50 kg/cm² with a 3 kg regulated output and an automatic release above 30 kg.
- Kit includes the 2 L stainless bottle, pressure gauge and valve, diffuser, 2 m of CO2 tubing, four suction cups, a 300 ml measuring cup, a funnel and two sets of reagent.
What this is not: a pressurised cylinder system. It is a chemical generator. Output tapers as the reaction exhausts and needs recharging every few weeks depending on your bubble rate. If you want set-and-forget pressurised CO2, buy a regulator and a refillable cylinder instead — this is the cheaper, more hands-on route.

Questions about this light
Frequently asked questions
Is this a pressurised CO2 system?+
No, and this is the most important thing to understand before buying. It is a chemical generator: citric acid and bicarbonate react to make CO2. There is no cylinder to refill at a gas supplier, but output falls as the reaction exhausts and you recharge it every few weeks. This listing previously described it as a complete CO2 system at $129, which oversold it. We have corrected the description and the price.
How often does it need recharging?+
Depends entirely on bubble rate and tank size — commonly two to four weeks on a small tank at a modest rate. The kit ships with two sets of reagent to start.
